Cistus – Cistus ladaniferus

Aroma – Deep, dark, warm, sweet, dry, amber-like

Parts Used – Leaves and twigs

Extraction Method – The gum is obtained by boiling the leaves and twigs in water. The oil is then obtained from the gum by distillation.

Therapeutic Properties – Antimicrobal, antiseptic, astringent, expectorant, sedative

Interesting Facts – Sometimes referred to as Rock Rose or labdanum. Rock Rose was imported into Ancient Egypt from Crete. The resin was extensively used in Egypt as a perfume and as an incense.
