Wake Up! Smell the…

Rosewood – Aniba rosaeodora

Aroma – Refreshing, sweet-woody, somewhat floral-spicy. The top note varies considerably with the origin and quality of the oil. It is usually camphoraceous and peppery.

Parts Used – Chipped wood

Extraction Method – Steam distillation and occasionally water distillation

Therapeutic Properties – Antidepressant, antiseptic, deodorant, insecticide, stimulant

Interesting Facts – The commercial interest in rosewood is because of the linalool which is an important aromatic chemical used in the fragrance industry. However, with the advent of synthetic linalool and cheaper sources of linalool from ho leaf from China, the production of rosewood oil has declined.
