Interesting Facts – The name comes from the Greek word hyssopus, itself derived from the Hebrew word ezob, meaning good scented herb. The flowers and leaves have been highly valued since antiquity for their therapeutic properties, and it was one of the bitter herbs mentioned in the Old Testament. Hippocrates prescribed it for bronchitis.
