Yoga Sutra Quote of the Day. Chapter 3. Verse 41.
In 3.40 and 3.41, Patañjali refers to two of the five vital breaths, or prana-vayus, that energize different regions of the body. He never again refers to these concepts, suggesting that they–and probably the shamanic powers as well–weren’t central to his system of yoga. Nonetheless, he carefully records a wide range of powers in chapter 3, perhaps to make the Yoga Sutra more fully inclusive of diverse ancient traditions, or out of deference to influential contemporaries.
